DAY 29 16 JULY Mastertons Cave to Surprise CREEK
Out of bed full of optimism. Out onto the road to have the optimism beaten out on THE WORST corrugations and bulldust I have ever seen. The Great Central Road last year has very little, if any, as bad. Lots and lots of minimum controllable speed over the corrugations only to get off and walk some of the really bad stretches and then walk some more through the bulldust.
A whole day of great physical effort to get only to get 80kms and stuffed.
We paddled happily in the clear flowing waters of the Calvert River before resuming the trudging through the dust to Surprise Creek. Here I dropped my prescription reading glasses when taking photos of the othees pushing their bikes through the flowing waters. Didn’t discover this until in bed at camp 3 km further down the road. Damn.
