DAY 23 10 JULY LAWN HILL GORGE CANOING, RESTING
A tin of baked beans all to myself for breakfast. Then take the transfer bus ($25 p.p.return) the 10km to the gorge. All the canoes were out so walked across the ridge to meet the river a km further upstream. And return. All very casual. By this time 2 canoes available ($54/2hrs, carries two people) . Took two canoes, Bruce and me in one, Chris and Brian is the other. Bruce gave me a free 10mins rundown on the deficiencies in the desighn (turns out he competed four times in the Avon Descent) coming forth in the double kayaks on one occasion.
The a very pleasant two hour paddlle upstream, around the portage to the highest reachable section for a swim in the rapids and return. Very pleasant.
Called the bus which came straight away and back in camp by 3:30pm. Laundry then Osso Bucco for dinner at the Adele’s Grove restaurant and bed. A good day.
