Slow out of Menzies. 9:00 am before finally took last pictures of the Achievable Cafe (must be a contender for most remote cappucino in WA) and a statue referring to the Lake Ballard sculptures (not going 50 km out along a ever worsening desert track to see the statues walking out of the salt lake, sorry Menzies).
After that it was just a pleasant plug almost straight north to Leonora.
By this stage I was recognizing the road trains; 3 wagon Sodium Cyanide guys, 4 wagon fuel trucks, 3 wagon sulphuric acid trucks. And countless small Toyota support utes.
Leonora was a friendly little place, especially the lady in the Community Resource Centre where the computers are. Nice chat with her about the plus/minus of living in a small, isolated desert town. The TV news of the night before had painted a very unsavory picture of the joint. While not saying there are no problems the drinking and other problems seem largely localized to parts of the town and the population.
A quiet night in the camp kitchen talking with the prospectors. Prospectors must be very religious because they keep doing the same thing (looking) in spite of the outcome (not finding much) not changing.
Out late because I couldn’t find my bicycle riding gloves. Spent an hour looking but no sign of ’em.
Oh well, I have crossed Australia twice without gloves so it looks like I might have to do the same again.
On to Laverton at 9 am.
