DAY 38 25 JULY SOUTHERN LOST CITY TO BUTTERFLY SPRINGS
Woke in the morning to see a couple of buffalo cows and a calf grazing nearby. They quickly spooked and ran off.
Riding today was a repeat of yesterday – hot, dusty/corrugated /with patches of bulldust.
The highlights were right at the beginning (4km in to Southern Lost City) and at the end (a fully- clothed swim in the beautiful clear pool of Butterfly Spring).
Southern Lost City was worth the 4km of dust and corrugations to get in to. Christine and I walked around for an hour enjoying the rock formations, views and flowering woolley-butts while Brian struggled to use my hobo stove to make a cup of tea. As well as the curious rock formations there was a great view over the tableland to the north-east. No animals!
After another five hours of corrugations, stones and dust camped at Butterfly Spring in the National Park campgrounds. A beautiful oasis in the walls of the limestone ridge we had followed most of the day.
