DAY 37 24 JULY BATTEN CREEK TO (ALMOST) SOUTHERN LOST CITY
Up for another great day of dirt road riding.
The first couple of km was excellent and fast but then the road went to pieces. Literally! Some parts were excellent smooth clay, others rough as guts corrugated to the point that it was easier to get off and walk, yet others were bulldust or loose sand. Again, we walked.
As the temperature rose to the mid-thirties C and the effort took its toll on our strength we got slower. Finally I had to ask for a halt and called for the ‘super food’, a can of cold baked beans before a short run to find a campsite on water in the bend of a creek.
The road had followed the edge of a ridge most of the day so the scenary was dry limestone ridge above and dried -out paperbark swamp below.
