A straight run on a magnificent bitumen highway to arrive at Laverton at 15:30. Apparently the road was built as part of the Posiedon nickel boom of the 1970’s. The miners wanted a railway but Charlie Court apparently would only …

Day 15. 26 April 2016 Menzies to Leonora. 103 km
Slow out of Menzies. 9:00 am before finally took last pictures of the Achievable Cafe (must be a contender for most remote cappucino in WA) and a statue referring to the Lake Ballard sculptures (not going 50 km out along …
Day 14. 25 April 2016 Kalgoorlie to Menzies. 130 km
Finally on the bike again.
A bit of a tailwind to get me over the rolling hills to Broad Arrow pub, all that is left of this mining town. A photo and onwards.
Nothing much to note about the day. …
Day 11 and 12 and 13. 22-24 April 2016 Kalgoorlie. 37 kms
Left Coolgardie for what seemed like an exceptionally hilly and long 37 kms in to Kalgoorlie.
I think it was the frequent traffic that put me off, lots of road trains going to mines and Toyotas and HiLux’s doing same. …
Day 10. 21 April 2016 Victoria Rocks Road to Coolgardie. About 100 km
Hardest day yet.
Lots of corrugations.
Lots of loose sand.

As I said to the concerned tourist going past I was ‘shaken but happy’ …
Day 09 20 April 2016 Forrestania to Victoria Rocks Road. About 130 km
Wheweee! Big day.
Thankfully a tailwind for most of it and a beautiful 20 m wide hard clay dirt road that only lacked bitumen to be an urban arterial.
Even so, the first 70 km to the Daybreak (?) mine …
Day 08. 19 April 2016 The Post arrives, the wheel is repaired and The End of the Beginning (first of the dirt). About 80 km
Up at 7 am, pack up the tent in a spurt of optimism and then ride in to Hyden to check the post.
The spoke tools have arrived!!!! Thankyou Robyn and Australia Post!
About two hours to replace the spoke …
Day 06 and Day 07 17 & 18 April 2016 Much ado about nothing. 0 km
Just luck to arrive at Wave Rock on a Thursday night.
The Welfare Package, aka some official documents that have been chasing me for a few days, arrived at the post office in Hyden (3 km each way) on Friday.…
Day 05. 16 April 2016 Kulin to Hyden and Wave Rock, with trepidation About 100km
A final hiccup leaving Kulin when a final check showed that my wallet was still at my lodgings. Note; when changing from street clothes to riding knicks, there are no pockets in the knicks so the wallet will look for …
Day 04. 15 April 2016 Cuballing to Kulin. About 113 km
Country getting flatter now and the wind dropping so ideal riding conditions.
A few of the spots on the map that were supposedly towns or communities turned out to be crossroads which may have hosted a local hall or tennis …
